Internet and Your Child

Internet is a wonderful place, where your child can grow and gain valuable information about the surrounding world. There are also dangers awaiting your child while surfing the Net and socializing in forums or other social sites. Before your child is old enough to use the Internet, discuss with him what he is allowed to do on the Internet, and what he is not allowed to do. Try to build mutual trust between the two of you, and allow him to share with you if something bad on the Internet happened to him. Always remember to discourage them from leaving too much personal information about himself on the Net. Children love sharing as much of their personal data as possible, so stay alert and keep your eye on it before something bad happens. Internet is a wonderful place where your child can play online games, meet new friends and learn new things. I think that it is a good place where your child can spend his free time, but you have to remember, that the Internet is also a place, where there is no parental supervision. Children are not afraid to say things on the Internet that otherwise they would not be afraid to say in real life.

Net Neutrality

I am a believer in net neutrality, which means that I am convinced, that all internet traffic should be treated equally. What net neutrality really gives, is freedom to do what we want, because it does not reduce the download speed of anything. We don’t want our internet service providers to deliberately discriminate against certain websites or type of files. Some argue, that video files use too much bandwidth and that is why downloading videos should be artificially slowed down by our ISPs. The problem with this type of reasoning is that many videos are very valuable, and we don’t have a right to limit the amount of people viewing them. There are many religious ministries which are based on distributing online videos through the Internet, and what will we tell them? Will we tell them that the message that they want to send across the world is less important than websites about fashion or cooking? Basically, what I am saying, is that we should not deliberately discriminate against anything and what is what net neutrality stands for. Everybody should have freedom to download files on the Internet which he needs and which he wants to use. I believe that our privacy must be protected.

Forwarding Emails

There are many email providers which charge its users for forwarding. If a person has a few accounts and wishes to forward emails on each of them, he might end up paying a lot of money. However, there are also email providers which do not charge for forwarding and a good example would be Gmail. You don’t need to pay anything, and you are going to receive the same quality service, so why pay more, if you don’t have to? Forwarding an email is quite easy and to do this you will first need to log in your Gmail account. The next step involves clicking on “Settings” and choosing “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”. What we are interested in is forwarding, so let’s only look at the options related to forwarding. You have a choice to forward emails to any address and keep Gmails’ copy in the inbox, archive it or delete it. At any time you can also disable forwarding if that is what you will want. Forwarding your email has many benefits, because you can have different email boxes created for different purposes like corresponding with co-workers, family or friends. All you have to do later is forward all of your emails to one email box.

Google Trends

Google Trends as the name suggest is a tool from Google that shows the most popularly searched terms from the beginning of 2004 until now. Google Trends charts how often particular search terms are entered relative to the total search volume across various regions of the world. Google Trends also allows to compare the volume of searches between terms. An additional feature of Google Trends is in its ability to show news related to the search term overlayed on the chart showing how new events affect search popularity, which is a quite handy tool. Overall Google Trends is a great tool for bloggers to look for topics to write about, especially if you have a news blog. Recently Google announced that it is going to update Google Trends on a daily basis.
